Myra J. Hermel Agri Science Academy/FFA

The Saint Peter High School agri-science program and FFA Chapter were restarted in the fall of 2011, and renamed the Myra J. Hermel Agri-Science Academy/FFA after SPHS moved to its current location in the fall of 2017.

The program oversees a 22-acre farm field, an FFA Garden located at the Nicollet County Fairgrounds, the 'Saints Bus' Greenhouse, and the apple orchard located just outside the SPHS west entrance. The apple orchard features four different varieties of apples -- Winecrisp, Galvanina, Honeycrisp, and Pixie Crunch.

Each of these amenities contributes to hands-on learning, higher education, and student success

FFA CHAPTER

Students enrolled in the program are encouraged to join our FFA program. The FFA is a national intercurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. Membership can start in 8th grade and continue through college. Although the letters traditionally stood for Future Farmers of America, today we simply use the acronym.

The organization is open to any student any career interest. We focus on premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. A few events that our members look forward to every year are: Ag Day with Kindergarten, attending the National FFA Convention, taking part in career development judging competitions, and helping with local service projects.
