North Elementary physical education students are taking part in their annual golf unit and thanks to a $3,500 grant from the Play Golf Minnesota program, sponsored by the Minnesota MGA/PGA, the school will no longer have to have the golf equipment brought in each school year.
Dave Torbenson, General Manager/ PGA Director of Golf at the Mankato Golf Club, recently presented North physical education instructors Kent Bass and Jordyn Bass with the golf equipment. The equipment includes enough kids-sized plastic golf clubs, rubber golf balls, as well as targets and pins for the entire class to use
“We are so fortunate to have received this grant to purchase the First Tee golf equipment and we’d like to thank Dave Torbenson for his work in helping write this grant for North,” Bass said. “The golf unit is always a favorite of our students and they love it when they get a chance to play and have Golfrilla visit.” (Note: Golfrilla is not part of the equipment the school received!)
According to Torbenson, grant funds come through the Play Golf Minnesota program, which is sponsored by the Minnesota MGA/PGA. The money is raised through the sale of the Play Golf Minnesota specialty license plate which is now available through the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and select DMV locations.
