North Elementary fourth grade students in Mrs. Friedrich's and Mr. Lewis's classrooms, through the generosity of the local Domino's and Dunkin Donuts restaurants, took part in a fun math activity right during the afternoon on November 23rd.
Both classrooms set up a restaurant with the food donated from both local businesses. Students took turns selling and buying food from each restaurant.
"It’s always great when we can have our students get real world experience using fractions and decimals, “Lewis said. “We're also so lucky to have Domino's and Dunkin’ Donuts willing to help out by donating to this activity. Dominos provided us with 10 pizzas and Dunkin’ Donuts gave us 150 of their Munchkins to use with this activity.
“Our students took turns being workers and customers at the restaurant and this year we opened it up to the other fourth grade classes to join us as customers. It was a fun math activity along with a little economics lesson thrown in to give the students a great learning experience. It was also fun to have (South Principal) Mr. Doherty stop by and join us.”
