Art students in Mrs. Nyhammer’s classes at North Elementary and South Elementary were busy earlier this year learning about the growth mindset through Peter Reynolds book “The Dot”. “International Dot Day” was September 15th, and it is a day to celebrate the lessons taught in this book. All students created an individual dot to create a school wide display. Reading and discussing the children’s book, “The Dot” which talks about having a growth mindset and works with kids on validating their frustrations and emotions.
Building on the book, Kindergarten classes met “Mr. Brush” this week, which is a program she has used to teach kids about taking care of paint brushes in a fun way. Students learn to care for the brush in a fun way while building their stills and confidence as young artists.
Among the topics Mrs. Nyhammer covers during her Mr. Brush unit includes:
- Care/use of the brush in a fun way
- Building on the Royal Brush posters and helping students learn about different brush type
- Utilizing the “Practice makes progress” theme for K-4 students
