Casey Dunker family

The Saints’ volleyball team will host its annual “Attack Cancer” fundraiser during tomorrow night’s match vs. Waseca, and this year’s event hits close to home for one particular Saint and her family. Proceeds from the event will benefit Casey Dunker and her family. Casey’s daughter, Gabi, is a senior on this year’s varsity squad.

“My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer on May 1st of this year, and while it has been a struggle at times she’s been so strong through all of this, including making it to most of my volleyball matches,” Gabi said. “She has an amazing support group behind her, and my volleyball family is definitely an extension of that amazing support group.”

Among the activities taking place during the evening includes the team selling bracelets for $1; upselling popcorn (in pink bags) by $1 for those who want to pay more for popcorn to donate; and having donation buckets near the concession stand. The girls volleyball players will also wear pink hair ribbons during the match and there are plans for a possible serving contest between sets #2 and #3 but plans haven’t been finalized at this time.

Casey and her husband, Erik, will be on hand for the game. In addition to their daughter, Gabi, the Dunkers have two sons, Caleb and Brady. Casey is in the midst of a second round of chemo treatments at this time, according to Gabi.
