Traffic Safety Day at SPHS

Several area law enforcement/emergency response units visited Saint Peter High School on Friday, Oct. 25, to host Traffic Safety Day in the west parking lot on the SPHS campus. The event provided educational opportunities for students, with the goal of changing poor driving behavior all while reiterating the dangers they can face while behind the wheel.

SPPS School Resource Officer Jon Hughes helped organize the event with the help of staff from St. Peter Police Department, Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and South Central Minnesota EMS System.

“Our presenter's were stationed in the west parking lot for this event and we were all excited at how many SPHS students participated,” Hughes said. “While the students were outside it was a rather informal setting and students were allowed to float around station to station as individuals or in a group.  Students had the option to have a form stamped by certain presenters and those students who completed the form received a small incentive.”

Those stations students participated in included:

-Seat Belt Convincer
-Pedal carts with fatal vision goggles
-Drowsy/Distracted Driving goggles
-Alcohol and cannabis impairment education
-Walk and turn demonstration
