Saint Peter High School members of the National Honor Society (NHS) fundraised to be able to purchase essentials to give back to individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. They wrote donation request letters to local businesses and hosted its second annual Penny Wars competition recently to raise money. In total the chapter raised $938 which will be used to purchase essentials to create "care kits", of which $483 came from the Penny Wars competition.
“We will hopefully be able to make 100 individual bags that will include a water bottle, a hat, mittens, socks, personal hygiene products, first aid products, a few snacks and a card from an NHS member,” Regina Sirianni, SPHS counselor and NHS advisor, said. “These will be distributed to local shelters including Union Street Place in St. Peter, Theresa House, Welcome Inn, The Salvation Army, Connections and the Reach. This is the second year that the chapter is doing this service project which was started by graduated member, Keira Dunn, last year.”
