Students in Ms. Witty’s Animal Science Class at Saint Peter High School hosted their very own dog show during class on Monday (Jan. 13) afternoon. Guest judges for the event were SPHS teachers Mrs. Voeltz and Mr. Clark.

“Each student was tasked with selecting a dog breed from the AKC website, and painting it to represent their breed,” Witty said. “They also needed to create an infographic about their dog breed and were able to name it (for fun). Our guest judges interviewed each student about their dog breed. The champion from each breed group was then entered into the ‘Best of Show’ round, where they had to answer harder questions.
“Some aspects of the project that students were judged on were their creativity/thoughtfulness, breed painting accuracy, their knowledge on the breed, and their presentation skills (Eye contact, speaking clearly, professionalism).”
This year’s “Best In Show” award went to Roy Hendrickson with his Boxer, Reserve Champion was Tiarnan (TC) Hopp with his Havanese, and Honorable Mention Ribbons were given to Evan Buffington with his Finnish Spitz, and Ashlyn Loula with her Bluetick Coonhound.
“Everybody worked so hard on their dogs and they turned out great,” Witty said. “Thank you to Don’s Appliance in Saint Peter, for saving us the cardboard boxes that we used for this project.”
