Saint Peter High School students in Courtney Shoemaker’s Adulting 101 class for Family and Consumer Science took part in mock interviews on Friday (Feb. 14) with one of several staff volunteers for this project. This experience provided students with some valuable training for the future.
The mock interviews were part of the adulting class’s career research unit. Students prepared for these by filling out sample job applications, creating resumes, and writing cover letters. In addition, the class spent time reviewing common interview procedures like handshakes, greetings, and proper attire, as well as common interview questions. Each student selected an industry to practice interviewing for, and each interviewer asked students the same questions, but they were also given the opportunity to ask a curveball question at the end.
“I think it was a great opportunity for all of the students involved. It helped them build confidence and skills, while teaching them the value of preparation for a real world activity,” Shoemaker said.
Those SPHS staff who played the roles of prospective employers included Principal Annette Engeldinger, Robbie Deering, Sharon Crowley, Heather Sather, Regina Sirianni, and Betsy Blume.
