Saint Peter Middle School students (grades 5-8) raised $2,399.74 for a bench to be donated in honor of Ms. Emily Kracht, the SPMS ELL teacher who passed away earlier this year, through their annual Penny Wars competition. Whatever remaining money will be donated to the Emily Kracht Scholarship fund at Saint Peter High School.
Mr. Toupence’s sixth grade advisory group was the top fundraising group for this year’s Penny Wars competition and will receive a cookie party for their efforts!
“This competition has been a great way for the kids to have fun and raise money for a good cause along the way,” SPMS Student Council co-advisor Rachel Ryan said. “The system we came up with gave positive points towards the advisory if they donated pennies and/or cash. If students from other classes put any silver coins in their buckets (like nickels, dimes, and/or quarters) resulting in negative points, taking away from the buckets positive points. It was a fun competition.”
