With the unseasonably mild weather outside on Wednesday, students in Ms. Bealey’s fifth-grade art class at Saint Peter Middle School turned off their screens, put on their sunglasses, grabbed their sketchbooks, and headed outside to find artistic inspiration in nature.
“Students had the opportunity to observe and capture the beauty of their surroundings while also developing a deeper connection with their environment,” Ms. Bealey said. “Being outdoors to work encouraged students to explore their artistic potential while also fostering a greater appreciation for the world around them.
Students also learned that working outdoors promotes relaxation and enhances overall well-being. Students reflected on their experiences at the end of class and shared their thoughts with the class.

“I never knew I could draw such a good tree before today.”
“I felt like I could be more creative when I wasn't confined to one space inside the classroom.”
“I saw things in nature that I don’t see every day and that inspired me.”
“I feel like it made us all more open-minded.”

“I noticed things that I don’t see every day, and I paid more attention to the details.”
